There are certain criteria both dog and owner must meet before the dog can become a Board and Train student.
• The dog must be a minimum of five (5) to five a half (5½) months of age. There is no maximum age.
• The dog should NOT weigh more than sixty five (65) pounds. **Dogs weighing over 65 pounds will incur additional training fee (see payment on page 3.)** • No dog will be enrolled that is extremely aggressive or hyperactive.
• The owner must be willing to part with the dog for several weeks.
Group classes offered through JCM’s are extremely effective. The Board and Train Program will not short cut the amount of work you will need to put into your dog. However, your dog will be fully trained upon his return.
The Board and Train Program consists of the dog staying at the instructor’s facility for a minimum of four (4) weeks, to a maximum of three (3) months. Average time, 6 to 8 weeks. (Time frame is based on the trainability of the dog). There he/she will live primarily in our home. The dog will also spend time in our indoor / outdoor runs, and in our Luxury Suites. He/she will be trained under the format of the brochure/website. Before the end of the program, the dog will attend several group classes. While in the group setting the dog will be worked by either myself, one of the advanced students, or both. Once this portion of the training has been completed, the dog will be returned to the owner. The 2 week follow up will begin at this time.
The 2 week follow up: The 2 week follow up is a series of in-home private lessons designed to teach the owner what the dog has already learned, and how to achieve the same results. First, there will be a demonstration of all of the exercises the dog has mastered. The owner will then be shown how to start working with the dog. During this period, a great deal of time and effort is needed to learn and maintain the proper level of obedience expected from your dog. It is the owners responsibility to schedule the follow up sessions as needed. Sessions are generally scheduled every 2 to 3 days.
After the initial 2 week follow up period, any additional follow up’s scheduled at the owners home will incur a $25.00 travel fee. There is no charge for follow up’s conducted at the instructor’s facility, or at any of our group classes. Lifetime group classes are also included.
To keep your dog in top working form, it is important that you work the dog everyday for several weeks. Then about 3 to 4 times a week to maintain training. NOTE:Our in-home follow ups (at the owner's home) must be no more than 45 minutes travel time from our facility in Covington. We cannot provide any in-home visits if your home is located outside of our maximum allowed travel time. All follow ups would have to be arranged to either, meet at our facility, group class, or a location within this travel time.
