JCM's Board and Train Program
There are certain criteria both dog and owner must meet before the dog can become a Board and Train student.
* The dog must be a minimum of four (4) months of age. There is no maximum age. * The dog should NOT weigh more than seventy (70) pounds. **Dogs weighing over 70 pounds will pay an additional training fee (see payment)** * No dog will be enrolled that is extremely aggressive or hyperactive. * If the owner feels that he cannot part with his dog for several weeks.
Group classes offered through JCM’s are extremely effective. The Board and Train Program will not short cut the amount of work you will need to put into your dog. However, your dog will be fully trained upon his return.
The Board and Train Program consists of a minimum of four (4) weeks, (average time 6 to 8 weeks) boarding of the dog at the instructor's facility. There he/she will live as a house dog. He/she will be trained under the format of the brochure/website. Before the end of the program, the dog will attend several group classes. While in the group setting the dog will be worked by either myself, one of the advanced students, or both. Once this portion of the training has been completed, the dog will be returned to the owner. The 2 week follow up will begin at this time. First, there will be a demonstration of all of the exercises the dog has mastered. Then the owner will be shown how to start working with the dog. The 2 week follow up is a series of in-home private lessons designed to teach the owner what the dog has already learned, and how to achieve the same results. During this period, a great deal of time and effort is needed to learn and maintain the proper level of obedience expected from your dog. It is the owners responsibility to schedule the follow up sessions as needed. Sessions are generally scheduled every 2 to 3 days. Any additional follow up's needed after the initial 2 week period is provided at no charge. Lifetime group classes are also included To keep your dog in top working form, it is important that you work the dog everyday for several weeks then about 3 to 4 times a week to maintain training.
To enroll your dog in the Board and Train Program you must:
* Complete and sign an application for training.
* Sign a copy of this Board and Train contract.
* Provide a copy of the dogs shot record for our files - including DHA²LPP, Bordatella, and Rabies (NO TAGS).* Provide a minimum 2 month supply of heartworm and flea medication. Any unused medication will be returned.
Your dog is guaranteed to perform the following commands, both on and off leash, upon his/her return:
Heel Sit stay Down Stay Drop in Motion (if the dog is running off, he will stop, drop, then come back). Stand for Exam Figure 8 (teaches the dog not to be distracted). Recall (the dog comes when called, every time). Finish (the dog returns to heel position). Heel from a standstill Move it in (the dog adjusts himself to the owners body position). Heel in reverse (as the owner walks backwards, the dog stays in heel position).
In home behavior problems, such as jumping, chewing, digging, play biting, housebreaking, charging the door, running out the door, running in the street, not coming when called, etc. are worked on but not guaranteed. The only way to cure these, and other behavior problems, is to address them in the dogs comfort zone, which is in the home in which he lives. The owner is taught the correct way to cure these unwanted behaviors within the 2 week follow-up period.
Guarantee: The dog will undergo an evaluation period of a maximum of 10 days. If, at any time within that period, the dog is deemed either un-trainable, or not a Board and Train candidate, there will be a full refund minus a training / evaluation fee of $20.00 per day.
If the owner is not satisfied with the dogs performance, once training is completed, a refund must be requested at that time. A refund will be issued at that time. A boarding fee of $10.00 per day will apply.
Policies: *No more than 2 dogs will be trained at any one time.
*The owner must be sure that he can part with his/her dog for as long as, in some cases, up to 3 months. In return for the wait, you will get a well trained, well mannered pet.
